Artist Statement

As a contemporary visual artist based in Cincinnati, my name is Sylvia Akamine and I am deeply devoted to the creation of thought-provoking and impactful works of art. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for experimentation, my multimedia pieces seamlessly merge traditional techniques with contemporary sensibilities. Through the mediums of drawings, paintings, calligraphy, and textile art, I construct intricate narratives and convey positive messages, while also exploring social and cultural themes. Utilizing found objects, fabric, beads, jewelry, and other collected items, I meticulously arrange and manipulate materials to create pieces that invite viewers to consider their own perspectives and question societal norms. My work is a reflection of my deep connection to the world around me, and my unwavering belief in the power of art as a catalyst for change.
